Daughter of Gor by Olga Turlovna (Part Four)

Daughter of Gor

14 - I resume my progress up the River Nyoka

Just below my feet, the Nyoka continues its sedate progress downstream towards Thassa – the sea. It has likely made this same journey for millennia, unconcerned by the events of human or Priest Kings, and it will likely continue long after I am gone.

I find its steady presence comforting and try to distract myself, watching any movements of ripples and eddies that distort the smooth surface.

At one point I see a miniature whirlpool disturb the tranquillity, perhaps created by the abrupt movement of some living creature hidden below in the muddy water.

10 - What occurs in Torcadino

As I walk under armed guard through the city of Torcadino, I consider that this has been my most pleasurable experience since awakening inside Aurore. Despite being a woman I finally have a little freedom to move around, exploring the city almost like an Urth tourist would back home.

Granted I have an escort – either Telisio, Rorius, or both, stand close by me, exuding their combination of menace and protectiveness. But the two men are as interested in exploring this new city as I am, so it is not difficult persuading them to leave our discrete rooms in the safety of the midday.

7 - I learn about the role of a free woman

“The outer veil fastens here, Mistress,” Tala says, lifting her hand to show me a discreet loop of cloth inside my hood. “The hook on the veil goes into the loop.”

She waits patiently while I fumble to secure the rectangle of cloth that covers the lower part of my face.

Silently I finish the task, and then let my hands fall to my sides, looking at my reflection in the full length mirror.

It’s not me there – it’s someone else. I see the image of Aurore of the Sardar, fully dressed as befits a free woman of Gor.

One of the new supporting characters for book 5: Ubara of Gor is Tijani, who was briefly introduced in the final chapter of Shadows when Emma, perhaps unwisely in retrospect, taunted him when he was chained to the oars of the Cosian galley, the Carcassonne.

1 - In which men talk business with Priest Kings

"And why is it that a man of Urth is needed to serve the Priest Kings?" I ask, leaning forward attentively. "Yes, I am from the caste that Goreans would call the warriors, but so are many of your allies. You have a mission on my home world, perhaps?"

Urth is their name for the Earth, my home, for I am no longer on the Earth. This world is Gor, the Counter Earth, a dangerous planet but a beautiful one.

Daughter of Gor by Olga Turlovna - Introduction

Daughter of Gor by Olga Turlovna is essentially the inspiration for my whole Emma saga. It was published on the Internet in 2014 and to my knowledge is the first time someone set out to write a piece of fanfic set in John Norman's world that strived to be more than just a short BDSM scene (which until Olga came along was what Internet Gor fanfic amounted to). Inspired by the film Apocalypse Now (and the book Heart of Darkness the film was loosely based on), Olga crafted a full blown novel, originally serialised in three parts, that adapted the structure and plot of the film into a Gorean setting.

Ooops...

So... you may be forgiven for thinking I've been incredibly lazy of late, and yes, you'd be quite right. I have been incredibly lazy! It has been a longer gap between books 4 and 5 than I originally intended, mostly down to all manner of things happening in my life, plus just taking a bit of a break from writing. Trouble is, time zipped by before I realised how much time had indeed, ahem, zipped by.

Um...
