Preview: The Larl of the Thassa

One of the things poor long suffering Chloe has to put up with in our creative partnership is the way I just decide to set the next story on, say, a Gorean warship, and then she has to go away and build from scratch the graphics for that 'prop' – something that takes considerably longer than it does for me to type the words 'Gorean ramship' into my story and then copy and paste John Norman's standard description of said vessel. ;)

Anyway, here's a preview of two of her test pictures of the 'Larl of the Thassa' – the pirate vessel belonging to Yishana, Ubara of the Black Coast, with the figure of Tijani posing on the deck for the purpose of scale.

  1. This is very nicely done. I assume the Larl will have a single bank or tier of oars? I can hardly wait to see the final rendering.

  2. Tal,

Pity there isn't a certain blond barbarian slave girl lashed to the prow. I am sure Chloe thinks that is an excellent idea.

    1. *whispering quietly to Chloe* I'm sure the Mistress didn't really mean that... *worried look*

    2. *whispers back* she probably means Marissa :)

    3. Oh yes, Marissa! Well fine, I don't care if that little slut is lashed to the prow. Though frankly between you and me she's not really beautiful enough to be lashed to the prow of a ramship. Goreans have standards you know. *snark*

    4. I vote for Kiera and Lady Ameena to be lashed to the prow at the earliest opportunity.

    5. I don't have any problems with that, Master. :)

  3. Thank you master. There is indeed a single bank of oars; 30 one each side, in groups of 3. I took the description in Raiders of Tarl's flagship the Dorna. I've also still got to paint the eyes of course.

I'm sure mistress has noticed that there's an adequate amount of space to lash any slave to the prow :)

  4. I did think that Emma having saved lady Marissa's life, might not wish her bound at the prow, especially as one Emma of London was going on about how she loved water just before they got taken to the house where Brinn was held. As Emma thinks that she comes up to Gorean standards of beauty then she must wish to be displayed at the prow and would be most put out not to be so displayed.

Anyway, as far as we know Marissa still has not been formerly enslaved, especially as Samos intended to free her.

Perhaps Emma and Kiera might be lashed one either side. With Kiera being First Prow, and Emma being put over later as Second Prow.

    1. Mistress! I've made a terrible mistake! I didn't properly read the name, just when Chloe suggested a different 'blonde barbarian' I automatically assumed she was referring to Kiera! I've been working hard, Mistress! Several new chapters written! I was tired! I didn't read it properly! Of course Mistress Marissa should not be tied to the prow of a ramship. She is a free woman! The thought is abhorrent to me! It was a genuine mistake! I can't believe I did that! A girl begs your forgiveness, gentle Mistress. I would never, ever, ever want Mistress Marissa to be treated badly and especially not in respect of water, for I understand only too well about phobias. *performs obeissance before you with head to the floor*

  5. Tal Emma,

But Chloe specifically states Marissa, no doubt she has been drinking too much cheap beer in Montreal. I think you should both be taken out for a 7 pasang run tomorrow at dawn.

  7. I think Chloe, as she was the first to mention the Lady Marissa, should be the one bound to the prow.

    1. Yes, Mistress, a 7 pasang run is a perfect punishment for us both. *very relieved look*

  8. Sadly Mistress it appears there's a fault in the c9nstruction of the prowl and it won't take much weight. The design is fine, just the build quality. It could be weeks before they remedy it.

    1. I think Chloe has just won the award for best reply to a previous post! :)

  9. Tal Chloe,
Amend your spelling of construction if you can.

There is no excuse for poor build quality especially as you were involved in the construction, anyway it was Master David of Worcester that suggested you be bound to the prow not me, so why isn't your message addressed to him?

You really are in trouble, karija. I think that the Free Persons posting on here should decide your punishment.

  10. Tal Donna,

I have examined the prow of the Larl of the Thassa and it is definitely of sound design and construction. While I enjoy a witty rejoinder as well as anyone, there is no excuse for a Kajira lying to a free person. Chloe has certainly earned punishment for this offense.

    1. Master, girl is sorry, but circumstances force her to disagree. Not only has a comparison of the plans to the build shown a weakness in the prow, it has also highlighted a problem with the forward anchor point of the mast, as I'm sure you noticed in your inspection.
There should be an additional beam abaft the prow which provides support for the prow and provides an anchor point for the forward mast rigging.
This can be seen in the cap on the forecastle protective screen just behind the prow, as shown in the 2 pictures.

  11. The forestay and sidestays look satisfactory. I believe I can see a backstay arrangement in the first illustration. Yishana seems to find the rigging acceptable, therefore I will inform Udumi not to be expecting you at The House of the Three Moons after all. A clever girl you are, Chloe :)
