Read-Along-A-Gor: Fighting Slave of Gor, chapter Six

Chapter Six: The Lady Tima

(In which we read, Fighting Slave of Gor)

It is now apparent that the House of Andronicus acts as something of a wholesaler to other slaver houses. Raw slaves are presumably acquired cheaply, then trained, and then sold on to auction houses who will market the stock. And when it comes to the sale of male silk slaves, it does seem that the business model is mostly run by women. Jason and his fellow silk slaves are lined up in display for a group of female slavers to inspect. Right from the first paragraph we see how cowed Jason is before these women, and how easy it is for them to stimulate the responses they require. Just the caress of the whip seems to arouse Jason.

"Interesting," said the woman. "Promising." I trembled, involuntarily, as the coolness of the leather of the woman's whip, its blades folded back against its handle, moved upward against my right side.

A man of Earth would be aroused by such treatment, for he has been conditioned during his life to have submissive fantasies. The slaves are of course made completely helpless before the women. None of the women are likely to forget they are dealing (for the most part) with Gorean men, and it would only take one savage brute to kill or maim several of them before he could be killed in turn by guards from another room.

My hands were manacled over my head to a ring in the low-ceilinged, torchlit room. My ankles, too, were manacled. They were fastened closely to a ring on the floor, near my feet. I was stripped naked.

Extending in a line to my left, the same line in which I formed the initial point, stripped, secured as I was, were twenty more male slaves. We were being examined by five women, veiled and robed, woman slavers.

Women, it seems, are more than capable of acting as professional slavers. They know their business and they know the market. Like their male counterparts, they are not swayed by any moral considerations. In their exquisite gowns and veils, the women are no doubt a spectacular sight. Their obvious femininity and soft, beautiful clothing, is nonetheless offset with small tokens that mark them out as dominant. Although she is not yet named, the Lady Tima is seen to wear a studded wristlet of black leather. One can imagine her tastes when it comes to putting men to use.

The robes and veils the women wore were graceful and of silken sheens. They were predominantly blue and yellow in their colours, which are the colours of the slavers. As the lovely sleeve of her robe dropped back I saw, on her left wrist, a heavy, metal-studded wristlet of black leather. Her eyes were dark and shrewd, fierce, objective, appraising, merciless.

Such women, I knew, would treat me with great strictness. They would not be easy with men so miserable as to fall into their power as slaves.

Lady Gina is present and knows the women well. Indeed, they make a casual reference to wanting to tempt her away from the House of Andronicus, but she seems loyal to her current employers. Lady Gina acts as a saleswoman making a presentation to senior members of the boardroom. She points out Jason’s pedigree, and it’s interesting to note that there is some suggestion that a male from Earth might sometimes be priced more expensively than his Gorean counterpart. Is this perhaps simply because of his scarcity (Jason, at this point, is the only such one), or because males from Earth are considered more suitable as silk slaves?

"This is a male from the slave world," said the Lady Gina.

"I wondered if it might not be," said the woman. "But we will not pay the more for him, if we are interested in him, because of that."

"Such matters are between you and my superiors," said the Lady Gina.

"Your superiors are men," said the woman, mockingly.

The women slavers seem to have little regard for the men of their caste. They consider themselves superior, no doubt, within the business. Lady Gina’s ‘off stage’ superiors are dismissed in a condescending fashion. Lady Gina has arranged a demonstration of the men’s virility. While they may have been conditioned to suppress their natural sexual desires for fear of punishment, it is important of course that they can still be aroused to a state where they can offer pleasure to a woman. Chained and helpless, the men are to be teased by Lola, to display what they are capable of under the right circumstances. Lola, when she appears, is now a very demure slave girl indeed. There is no sign of her airs and graces in front of the female slavers. And she is trying to play down her sexuality so as not to appear a threat to the women. It wouldn’t take much for the women to grow angry with her and have her whipped. Lola has to tread VERY carefully in their presence.

In a few moments Lola entered the room. I had never seen her appearing so demure. Her hair was combed back and tied with a white ribbon. She had been washed. She was dressed in a brief, sleeveless, white tunic. She was barefoot. She still had on her throat, of course, the same steel collar. Lola fled to the Lady Gina and knelt before her, putting her head to the floor. Lola, I saw, was terrified to be in the presence of the free women. I realized then, as I had not before, something of the loathing and hatred with which the enslaved female is regarded by her free sisters.

Time and again, Mr Norman reminds us of the hatred shown by free women towards their enslaved sisters, and the fear that is felt by the slaves themselves when they are in the presence of free women. There is a war of sorts between free women and slaves – a war that is never likely to end well for either side.

The House of Andronicus, in which I was slave, presumably did not wish to offend the female visitors. Lola, too, I imagine, was only too happy to de-emphasize her sexuality before her free sisters. She did not, after all, wish to writhe beneath their whips, the lashed object of the fury and contempt of free women, jealous perhaps of the helplessness of the slave girl before men, her beauty and her collar.

If she wasn’t such a bitch, you’d feel sorry for Lola, because now she has been brought out to arouse the male slaves, and she can hardly do that without acting in a manner that the free women will resent her for. It’s a no-win situation for the poor kajira. Lady Gina’s acidic remark underlines the very narrow line Lola will have to walk now.

"Lola," said the Lady Gina, "begin at the far end of the line of male slaves. Tell each that you are his slave. Kiss them. Tell them that you love them. Address them as Master. Then, kiss them again."

"Be sensuous, Lola," said the Lady Gina. "I think you can manage that," she added, acidly.

"Yes, Mistress," said Lola, casting a frightened glance at the Lady Gina, and, too, at the female slavers.

And again Mr Norman reminds us of the pecking order in the slave hierarchy.

It was a great shame, I knew, for a female slave to even have to touch a male slave, let alone to perform such an act as to address him as Master. Female slaves despise male slaves. They regard themselves, and correctly, I suppose, as the rightful property only of free men and women, masters and mistresses.

One of the strong concepts of the Gorean saga, which sets it apart from other BDSM erotica, is the competitive structure Mr Norman devised for his culture. The hatred of free women towards female slaves adds another layer, as does the way the slaves fear free women and delight when they are brought down to their level by men. And so too, the relationship between female slaves and male slaves is exquisite, with the men obviously lusting after the girls, but forbidden from touching them, and the girls teasing and taunting the men, to provoke reactions that will see them punished. Gor is a very sexual world, but it also has a complex arrangement that divides and conquers and places barriers between certain social groups and sexuality.

Lola of course arouses each slave in turn by kissing and touching him, but when she reaches Jason, her true feelings for him, that she has been fighting against, come to the surface and she writhes rather too well against his body. The reaction from the free women is immediate and harsh.

"Look at the little slut," said one of the women. "She is excited."

"Filthy little slave slut," said another.

Lola has crossed a line with her responses, for she is secretly attracted to Jason as a potential master, and masks those feelings by trying to destroy him as a functioning man. Only when she is forced to seduce and arouse him, does her behaviour change.

And as for Jason, well, the touch and sight of the lovely Lola has an immediate and profound effect on him, too.

The women laughed. "That one is alive!" laughed one of them.

"Are you sure he is from Earth, the slave world?" asked another.

"It will be a lucky mistress who gets him," said another.

I looked at the women, wretchedly, shamed. I looked at the woman with the marking stick and the paper, clipped to its board. She looked at me and laughed. I saw the marking stick move, as she made a notation on her record.

Yes, Jason is virile and easily aroused, despite the aversion therapy he has undergone. And why wouldn’t he be? Lola is a trained Gorean slave girl and her touch is impossible to ignore, especially as we can assume Jason has gone without sex for some considerable time. The women slavers are amused by this, and no doubt some of them are imagining what it might be like to have Jason for their own personal use., chained to their couches.

Jason of course feels utterly humiliated, for he has been aroused in front of these dominant looking women, and examined like a prize bull.

Lady Gina is the perfect saleswoman. She can see that Jason has attracted considerable interest, and now is the time to clinch the deal. No doubt she receives a healthy commission from any sales and she judges the time is right to escort the women to a side chamber where refreshments will no doubt be provided as deals are struck and prices discussed.

"Let us retire to a more comfortable room," said the Lady Gina, "and discuss the slaves." The Lady Gina then left the room, followed by most of the women slavers.

And if we have any doubts that Jason will go for a good price, we need only note the Lady Tima’s lingering glances at the helpless kajirus as she pauses for a moment. She has seen something she likes, and she is a woman who tends to get what she wants.

One of them remained for a moment, looking at me. It was she who had most closely examined me, she who had worn, beneath her silken sleeve, the metal-studded, black-leather wristlet.

  1. Tal All,

Well from JM's point of view....he responds to the Lady Tima's whip caress because he has been 'restrained' this suggests some sort of chastity device to prevent 'self release'.

I am sensitive myself to a caress in the area twixt hip and armpit along the side of my body and JM was chained naked for inspection prior to sale.

Plus he get a ravishing slave girl kiss, hug and hold him whilst they are both naked. He can't help but respond like this and the potential buyers note his and Lola's reactions with interest.

Poor Jason....but Lady Tima has no many mor tricks in store for him!

  2. It's interesting JN appears to consider female slavers as equal to their male counterparts in competence and professionalism.

    1. I confess, Master, it’s one of the things that stood out on this re-reading of Fighting Slave. I had forgotten just how good a slaver the Lady Gina was. The fact that in chapter six the market of Tima tries luring her away to their employment highlights that as well.

In John Norman’s books, women seem more than capable of enslaving and training other men and women. I suspect they don’t take part too much in the acquisition of slaves out in ‘the wild’ – leaving that to men, because of the risks involved, but within the slaver houses themselves they seem to rise to managerial positions in time and seem more than capable of administering the business.

Now that I think about it, Players of Gor shows us a woman who does acquire slaves out in the wild – the Lady Yanina – but I don’t know how common that would be.

I’m not sure I’d want to be in the hands of a female slaver. The Lady Gina seems extremely fair with Lola and Tela, even though she personally despises their slave responses, but I think some of the women of the market of Tima might be less sympathetic in their approach.
